A door that opens but refuses to close, reverses unexpectedly or shows a sensor warning needs a fault-specific answer. Sensor work is available same-day for most jobs, subject to availability; call (352) 410-0566 to describe the problem and arrange a free on-site estimate.
Chamberlain Group describes several sensor-related symptoms: interrupted closing, a receiving-eye light that is off or flickering, and opener diagnostic warnings.
When a closing problem may involve the sensors
Chamberlain Group describes several sensor-related symptoms: interrupted closing, a receiving-eye light that is off or flickering, and opener diagnostic warnings. Those are useful observations to report, but none proves that a new pair of sensors is necessary. A closing problem can involve alignment, wiring, an obstruction or another part of the door-and-opener system. Tell us what the door actually does rather than choosing a replacement part from the symptom alone.
For example, “the door reaches the floor and comes back up” describes a different event from “the opener will not start closing.” Note which happened, whether it happens every time, and whether the problem began after something bumped the area beside the opening. You do not need to recreate a failed movement or stand in the doorway to answer these questions. Observations you already have are enough to start the enquiry.
Garage Door RepairWhat photo-eyes do, and what they do not do
Photoelectric sensors form part of an opener’s protection against entrapment. Their beam crosses the opening near floor level; interrupting that beam affects closing operation. They are separate from the remote that sends an opening command and from the mechanical parts that carry the door. Repairing a photo-eye problem does not automatically address a damaged track, a broken spring or a door that binds.
Sensor positioning and compatibility belong to the instructions for the particular operator. Do not move sensors higher simply to avoid objects in their path, cover their lenses, join wires together to bypass them or increase opener force to overcome a closing fault. Keep children and pets away from the opening while the fault remains unresolved. A door that sometimes closes is not, by that fact alone, a confirmed safe system.
DASMA Garage-door Safety GuidanceAlignment, obstructions and wiring are different questions
Chamberlain’s guidance distinguishes a blocked or misaligned beam from a short or break in sensor wiring. These possibilities can look similar from the driveway. Report any visible displaced sensor or damaged wire without handling the wiring or loosening the mounting hardware. If stored items are near the doorway, describe where they are; do not reach beneath a partly open or unstable door to move them.
Ask whether the estimate covers alignment, wiring work or replacement sensors, and whether it addresses the sensors alone or another opener fault. If replacement is proposed, ask which equipment is included.
Chamberlain Sensor TroubleshootingA problem that follows sunlight or a particular time of day
Direct sunlight reaching a receiving sensor can interfere with its infrared signal; Chamberlain documents this as a possible explanation for a door that behaves as though the beam is obstructed. If the problem occurs only at certain times, tell us the time and which side of the opening receives sunlight. That pattern is useful information, but it does not establish sunlight as the cause or rule out a wiring or alignment problem.
Any remedy must suit the installed equipment and retain the safety function. Improvised covers, relocation or bypasses are not substitutes for a supported repair. If you already have a photograph showing the light conditions, it may help explain the pattern. There is no need to repeatedly operate the door while waiting for the symptom to occur again.
Chamberlain Sunlight-interference GuidanceReplacement compatibility and indicator lights
Replacement sensors must suit the installed opener. For example, Genie identifies its Safe-T-Beam replacement kit as a Genie-only product and lists an excluded model; it is not a generic replacement for every brand. Keep any existing manual or equipment label photograph available when discussing parts. Describe the lights you see without assuming that a particular colour means the same thing on another manufacturer’s equipment. Ask which sensor set is proposed and whether the existing brackets and wiring are included in the repair scope.

When the fault belongs elsewhere
A working photo-eye system cannot correct a door that has come off its track or a broken lifting component. If the door is visibly crooked, a cable is loose or hanging, or a spring appears broken, stop operating it and describe that condition when calling. Do not keep trying the remote because a sensor warning also happens to be present. Mechanical damage needs attention in its own right.
Likewise, an opener that does not respond to any control is a broader enquiry than a door that responds but will not close. Let us know whether the issue involves opening, closing or both, and whether there is visible damage. You do not need to decide whether to book a sensor, opener or door repair before making contact.

Estimate, availability and warranty
You receive a free on-site estimate. Keep the repair scope, component details and applicable warranty documents with your opener paperwork. An existing manual or label photograph can identify the equipment; do not climb to retrieve one just to book.
Repair labour carries a six-year warranty. Parts carry their applicable manufacturer’s warranty separately; the labour warranty is not a promise that every replacement part has six years of manufacturer coverage. Same-day service is available for most jobs, subject to availability. If the garage cannot be secured overnight, emergency service runs 24/7, including weekends and holidays, with no night or weekend surcharge.
Call (352) 410-0566 with your address, the current door position and the closing behaviour you have observed. Mention whether the garage is open to the outside or a vehicle is inaccessible so the enquiry reflects the access problem as well as the sensor symptom.
