10 Reasons For Your Garage Door Not Closing Properly

10 REASONS FOR YOUR GARAGE DOOR NOT CLOSING ALL THE WAY
  1. SOMETHING BLOCKING THE DOOR SENSORS
  2. DIRTY SENSORS
  3. BROKEN SENSORS
  4. WORN OUT OR BROKEN TORSION SPRINGS
  5. WRONG SPRING TENSION
  6. MISSING ROLLERS
  7. BENT OR MISALIGNED TRACKS
  8. LOOSE OR BROKEN HARDWARE
  9. INCOMPATIBLE GARAGE DOOR OPENER
  10. ELECTRICAL ISSUES

SOMETHING BLOCKING THE DOOR SENSORS: The number one reason your garage door won't close is that something is blocking the door sensors. The sensors tell the garage door opener when to stop and start so it can open and close your door. If something is blocking them, the door won't be able to move. Check to see if anything is blocking the sensors and remove it.

DIRTY SENSORS: Dirty sensors are the second most common reason your garage door won't close. The sensors have a lens that can get dirty, which will prevent them from working correctly. Clean the lenses with a rag and see if that fixes the problem.

BROKEN SENSORS: Broken sensors are another common reason for a garage door not to close. The sensors are delicate and can be easily broken. Check to see if the sensors are intact and replace them if they are not.

WORN OUT OR BROKEN TORSION SPRINGS: The torsion springs help lift and lower your garage door. They can wear out over time and may need to be replaced. If the springs are broken, they will also need to be replaced.

WRONG SPRING TENSION: The springs' tension helps hold the door in place. Check the tension of the springs and adjust as needed. The door will be difficult to close if the tension is too high. If the tension is too low, the door will be easy to close but may not stay closed.

MISSING ROLLERS: The rollers help the door to move up and down. If one or more of the rollers is missing, the door will not be able to move. Replace any missing rollers.

BENT OR MISALIGNED TRACKS: The tracks are what the door rollers ride on. If the tracks are bent or misaligned, the door will not be able to move. Straighten or replace any bent or misaligned tracks.

LOOSE OR BROKEN HARDWARE: The hardware that holds the door in place can become loose or broken over time. Tighten any loose hardware and replace any broken hardware.

INCOMPATIBLE GARAGE DOOR OPENER: The garage door opener is what provides the power to open and close your door. If the opener is incompatible with your door, it will not be able to open or close it. Check the compatibility of your opener with your door and replace the opener if needed.

ELECTRICAL ISSUES: Electrical issues can prevent your garage door from opening or closing. If you have an electrical issue, you need to contact an electrician to fix the problem.
